January – March 2013: Cambridge Kant Reading Group

(Organizer: Katharina Kraus)

The topic in Lent term will be “Unity as Regulative Idea”. We will read a selection of secondary readings and also attend to selected primary sources drawn from the Critique of Pure Reason (1781/7) and the Critique of the Power of Judgment (1790). In the first part of term, we will discuss the idea of the unity of nature, which guides our scientific enquiry in striving for the systematicity of knowledge. In the second part, we will turn to the ideas of unity of consciousness and unity of reason, which – complementary to the unity of nature – guide our experience of ourselves as human beings and as moral agents.

Meetings are held in the HPS Lodge from 3:30 – 5:00 pm on Tuesdays. They begin with a short presentation and are followed by general discussion. All are most welcome. If you have any questions, please feel free to contact Katharina Kraus.
